The Salmon River Cemetery is another great old graveyard, this one from the old lumber camp days, now accessible thanks to the magnificent Fundy Trail.
Like with the Sea Captains’ Burial Ground, many of these long forgotten graves were identified thru research and have been marked with wooden crosses. It is a peaceful place lush with ferns; please be respectful.
The map you were given when you entered the park will direct you to the Salmon River Cemetery Footpath but just in case... Park at Cranberry Brook Lookout or at P9. From the lookout, walk down the stairs, past the picnic area, and follow the trail into the woods. After a short distance there is a sign directing you right to the cemetery. The trail is .33 km in length and is rated moderate to strenuous.
When you reach the cemetery, it is best to access the cache from inside the cemetery rather than trying to walk around as there may be nesting birds in the ferns and footing is clearer inside. The cache is outside the fence but a section of the fence is down near the cache so access is easy.
Cache is a small camo’d container with just a log sheet; bring your own writing instrument. Please make sure to wedge the container tightly back in its hiding place and please, NO TRADERS.
