W trzeciej dekadzie XX wieku ten wspaniały dworek był wielką turystyczną atrakcją. Imponował szerokim wejściem, nad którym górował daszek wsparty na kolumnach. Duże okna, przestronne wnętrza, rzeźby. W latach 30. willa "Gryf" była perełką orłowskiej architektury. Stojąca kilkaset metrów od morza wiodła prym wśród ówczesnych letników. Wakacje spędzał tu dyrektor Wedla, przedwojennym autem przyjeżdżał szef jednej ze śląskich kopalni...
Willę Gryf zbudował w 1930 r. doktor Zdzisław Betlejewski. Dom zniszczyła wojna, a potem kwaterunek. W 1983 został wpisany na listę zabytków. W 2010 odnowiono budynek... ale posępny gryf spogląda z góry do dziś.

In third decade of the 20th Century this mansion was an architectural crown jewel in Gdynia Orłowo. It impressed with its wide entrance, and its eclectic rooftop mounted on columns. Humongous windows, oversized interiors, sculptures... In 1930s Villa Gryf was a favorite vacation spot. Located only a few hundred meters away from the seashore, it was one of the most popular tourist attractions at the time. It was frequented by notables such as the principal of the Polish chocolate factory WEDEL. It was also a favorite of the director of a Polish mine who traveled all the way from the south to spend sun-drenched days in Villa Gryf.
The villa was restored by a commercial developer in 2010s. Yet, the intrepid griffin watches over Orłowo from its peak on top of the villa.
