Gauteng West Rand Black Eagle GeoArt Series

Welcome to the West Rand, Gauteng! The West Rand Geocaching Community is very proud to present BLACK EAGLE GEOART, the only GeoArt to date in South Africa depicting the rare Black Eagle! Apart from its rich cultural history, the West Rand in Gauteng, South Africa is also home to an extremely active Geocaching community. The West Rand Geocachers are a social bunch and meet at least once every month to share stories, swap experiences and trackables and enjoy each others company.  We hope you will enjoy exploring the beauty of the West Rand, Gauteng!

PLEASE NOTE: THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. YOU MUST SOLVE A PUZZLE WITH THE INFORMATION BELOW TO CALCULATE THE FINAL COORDINATES. Our Family Firsts As a family we accidentally found a Geocache in a park while clambering over some rocks in the August of 2015. It's name is Playground Panorama. It is approximately 800m from our house. Alex (my son) and I found and logged our first cache - The Lover of Horses - on 23 July 2016, its approximately 900m from our house. Alex was then only 4 years old. Since then we have been hooked. Tiffani (my daughter) found her first cache at the age of 3. She discovered the cache named - Fruit - on 4 July 2018 in Gordon's Bay. This cache is approximately 1247km from our house. Using the information above solve the coordinates as follows: S 26 0.ABC and E 027 40.DEF A = the first digit of the distance between "The Lover of Horses" and our house. B = Take the value of (A) and subtract Tiffani's age when she found her first cache from it. i.e. (A) minus Tiffani's age = B C = How old was Alex we logged our first cache. D = The number of letters in the last word of the name of the first cache Alex and I logged. E = The number of times the letter "a" appears in the name of the cache we accidentally found. F = Which day of the month did Tiffani find her first geocache. Geocache: The cache is a cryptex. It is padlocked into an existing structure. See hint to unlock the cryptex. Please exercise a great deal of stealth, a lot of work and time has gone into the cache, so try not compromise its location in any way possible. If you feel it would be better to remove the cache from the structure and then return it - all the time being very aware of any muggle presence and not to drop the cryptex into the structure - you can use this code: 1468.
