Geocache Description:

At the northeast corner of Sunday Lake, water spills over a small dam and rushes into a mysterious, dark tunnel.  Few people know where this tunnel goes, or what its purpose is.  The truth lies about a third of a mile to the northeast, where the tunnel ends in a ravine and water spills out, forming the little known Sunday Lake Falls.  The tunnel was blasted out by miners when the Sunday Lake Mine was in operation, probably to help regulate the lake's water levels.

After the water emerges from the tunnel, it cascades over two main drops, and then a series of rapids below the falls.  It is not one of the highest waterfalls in the area, but certainly one of the most unique. Its water level varies greatly throughout the year.  If you visit in spring or early summer, you will be rewarded with a large amount of water tumbling over rocks and around a small island.   The water level lowers significantly later in the summer, but pictures of the falls at high water have been taken in months as late as November. No matter what time of the year you visit, Sunday Lake Falls is a very interesting spot.

There are two ways to access this geocache. The easiest way is to park at the west end of the guardrail by the bridge over Planter Creek. Then, scramble up a somewhat steep slope to access an old railroad grade that passes right by the cache. If you don't want to deal with the steep slope, park at the Parking Coordinates just east of a 35 MPH sign. Then, cross over to the railroad grade and follow it to the cache. You will have to duck under a rope across the trail warning you that the bridge is out. Use caution while on the rocks above the falls, it is easy to lose your footing.  The cache is on the west side of the creek.  Please be sure to replace the container EXACTLY as you found it.  The camoflauge is somewhat delicate, so be careful while opening the container.  Have fun!
