Cache Is Not At The Posted Coordinates
Mr. Toot is the mascot not only of the North Iowa Band Festival, but also for Mason City as a whole. His image has appeared on everything from T-Shirts to business cards to city light poles. Now his image also appears on the geocaching map just south of Mason City Iowa. Each of these puzzles will include a fact or story in theme with the art series. Some may also include a question or two for you to answer correctly to find the coordinates.
Mason City
The current footbridge, with a steel arch, cement deck and iron guardrail, was built in 1940 with grant money from the Public Works Administration. The bridge was also raised to the same level as the sidewalks at either end. The bridge is 450 feet long and 7 1/2 feet wide.
In 1962, the footbridge was renamed the Meredith Willson Footbridge in honor of Mason City favorite son, Meredith Willson. He immortalized the footbridge in his 1957 musical about Mason City, "The Music Man".
Most recently, the footbridge underwent an extensive renovation in 1981 that consisted largely of sandblasting, painting and some repair work.
