Cache Is Not At The Posted Coordinates
Mr. Toot is the mascot not only of the North Iowa Band Festival, but also for Mason City as a whole. His image has appeared on everything from T-Shirts to business cards to city light poles. Now his image also appears on the geocaching map just south of Mason City Iowa. Each of these puzzles will include a fact or story in theme with the art series. Some may also include a question or two for you to answer correctly to find the coordinates.
Mason City
Just about any city you go to has someone famous buried there. Meredith Willson, of course, is the one that we have been talking about on these cache pages. Another famous person buried here is Henry Irving Smith.

Henry Smith was a civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant, in Company B, 7th Iowa Infantry. At Black River, North Carolina, on March 15, 1865, his company attempted to construct a pontoon bridge over a portion of the flooded river that was held by Confederate troops. In the midst of the struggle with the rebel defenders, one of his soldiers was swept away in the current. First Lieutenant Smith, threw off his coat and sword and swam to the soldier's rescue, bringing him to shore to continue their mission. For valor in the face of the enemy, he was promoted Captain and awarded the Medal of Honor.
