Geocache Description:

Nestled at the bottom of a hillock at a road leading from Broga is a temple estimated to be 150 years old known as Sak Dato Temple. According to the caretaker, the temple was originally a cave shrine set up by early Chinese settlers who who are miners and later farmers of mainly Hakka origin. It grew into a temple after it was thought to have brought prosperity to worshippers who donated generously to the temple as thanks giving.

The temple is located on a small hill and sections of the temple were built on various levels connected by flights of concrete staircases, including Guanyin Hall and the original cave shrine. A beautiful and colourful garden with a pavilion sits on the highest point. Various giant fruit statues as well as the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac can be seen in the garden. A herb garden with a sign stating their names and medicinal values as well as uses can be seen here.

Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view and take a walk across the 340 feet long hanging bridge to the neighbouring hill to get a closer view of the 15m high Monkey God (Sun Wukung) statue standing at its top. The statue overlooks the temple and the new village below. A small donation box is placed at the entrance of the bridge and most visitors who use the bridge are encouraged to drop in a small donation to be used for the maintenance of the bridge. However, it is by no means compulsory
