The Angels and Demons series has been developed to cater to all caching skill levels. There is something for everybody on this route; simplistic finds for those starting out, and more challenging ones for the more experienced cacher. There is also a variety of cache types, so that those that enjoy a particular cache type might find a favourite one here, whilst those that do not enjoy certain caches won't see too many of them to do! It is also very good for less experienced cachers to get to grips with a new type of cache whilst finding many more that they are familiar with in the same route.
The caches are structured so that there won't be too many of the same type of cache back to back either, mixing it up for you along the route. Although the series has been designed to be completed in one run, it is perfectly possible to pick up bits and come back on a different day for more of a challenge if you would rather. We have labelled each cache as either an angel or a demon, too, so as to help guide any cacher in what they can expect from that cache! Not all of the angels will be simple, but they will still be easier than the demons so pick your fights wisely!
The series is best enjoyed by walking, although every cache has purposefully been placed close to the roadside to make it possible for completing the route by car. A lot of the caches will require precision which only walking can achieve (such as the Wherigos), but we have tried to make this series possible for all to complete by their chosen method. On a nice day these quiet back roads can be a very pleasant walk though, and so this method is recommended by us.
Please note that there is nothing hidden at the posted co-ordinates, so please do not search there. These co-ordinates will take you to a large wooden post, which is where you should start your journey in order to locate the cache. Read the story below for more guidance on how to find it.
Anael had forever been searching for her true love. In her years she had successfully brought together many other couples, young and old, but for herself there had never been the ONE, her true love that she longed for so much.
Then one day she heard his calling. It was a day much like any others. She was walking the Earth, seeing joy, happiness and love all around her. These were qualities that she enjoyed playing with, manipulating, and twisting into something even more beautiful. She had discovered such a happy box beneath a boulder when she saw a large wooden post in the ground nearby, and upon reaching it she heard his call. Unable to see his beauty was torture, but she could hear him off in the distance and set off up the road to find her true love.
As her journey began she passed gnarly trees on her left, and then a single tree on her right. She could see a barbed wire fence on her left, and then another big post appeared on her right, free of the trees. Beside the post stood Sariel, her friend, whom warned her against the sound of the calling.
"I cannot hear this sound." He told her. "Do not follow such a path as cannot be heard by other angels. What awaits you may not be your true love, but your final demise."
But Anael could not be swayed from her path. She heard the call and was determined to continue her journey, so Sariel insisted on joining her. "I will keep you safe." He explained. "And perhaps you will realise the futility in your journey."
Anael could not prevent Sariel from accompanying her, so the two of them continued along the road. Off in the distance she could see long black cables stretching across the skyline, and as she rounded a corner she could see the roof of a house poking above the trees. Sariel regailed her with tales of woe as they walked, warning her of the dangers of following the song that she could hear, but Anael continued to ignore his advice.
The two of them passed a large gateway on the left of the road, and then the land to their right opened up to reveal a large open plain. "Look!" Exclaimed Sariel, pointing to their left. A small structure sat just off the road, white in colour. It could not be reached without crossing the boundary, but neither of them would have wanted to go there anyway for the sight that they saw. Nestled under the building's eaves was a demon unrecognisable across the distance but clearly dark in his ways. Death and Destruction rolled off him like a nauseating stench, and Anael been alone then he may have tried his luck at bringing them to her also. But she was not alone, Sariel was at her side, and she was safe for the moment at least. The pair of them hurried on.
Off in the distance to the right were hulking clay tips, man made mountains of contested beauty. A copse of trees on the left, followed by oppressing trees, then a wooden fence, the other side of which was Springfield Farm. Opposite this entrance was a wide gateway, with another fence post. Another demon was here, this one close enough to cause trouble.
"I see you," she said, dark venom dripping from every word. "I see you, and I see your fear. I shall eat your souls, and you shall know my name."
"Then do so and be done with it!" Shouted Sariel, stepping forward. "We do not fear those that are too afraid to match their words with actions. You talk of fighting, but you slink away!" He yelled, as the demon did exactly that, stalking swiftly back into the large plain.
He turned to Anael then. "They fear us for we are together." He said. "But if we cross paths with more than one of them then I do not know what they shall do. This is the second demon that we have seen, we must be crossing into their territory. Please heed me, let's turn back!"
But Anael did not take heed, and instead silently continued on her way, following the call of her true love from before her. Sariel followed at her heel like a faithful dog, but he was afraid and she knew he was right to be so. The road continued on around a corner to the left, with an opening of trees on the right. One large multi trunked tree stood at the fore, and Anael could see hellhounds crouched in the darkness behind, awaiting their master's command to set them loose upon the intruders. The pair of them hurried on, watched by the salivating animals and somewhere, she was sure, their master's eyes. Why they were not loosed immediately Anael did not know, but she did know better than to question their luck.
They continued up the slope through a tunnel of trees. As the trees parted they saw a large telegraph pole to their right, and a passing place to their left. The song was louder now. Much louder, so that it made a deafening crescendo of noise inside Anael's head that brought tears to her eyes, but still they continued. Sariel, through with trying to convince her to turn back, propped her up with a supporting arm and helped her on her way.
Their journey took them back under more trees for a short spell, but when they emerged on the other side they could see those same black cables that they had seen from so far away before. They stretched across the sky, and Anael realised that it was these that had been helping to create such a loud song in her head, amplifying the sound to its maximum intensity. Standing there, beneath the lines, was the source of the sound, her one true love, T'an-mo, the devil of desire! He was leaning against the right hand side of the road, in amongst the trees, precisely where if one were to look up then they would see three sets of cables in line with each other, like an alignment of the stars for her one true love.
Sariel stepped forth to once again protect them, but T'an-mo did not stir. He simply spoke from where he leant. "There is no need for that, Sariel." And instantly her friend was gone, vanishing into a whisper of smoke as though he had never been there in the first place. Anael wanted to scream but there was no voice left in her, only the sound, that siren's call that bade her toward her one true love. Still he did not stir, but remained in place, and yet Anael could not run away. Her footsteps drew her toward him, deeper into his snares. When she finally reached him he finally moved, but just by raising his arms to enfold her in a caring embrace.
"My love," he said. "You have come to me. You have found me, and now we can be together, forever."
"Where?" She finally whispered, nothing more than a croak. "Where? I cannot be in Hell, you cannot be in Heaven. Where can we be together?"
"Right here, my love. Right here." And with that the two of them faded into mist, a mist that shrank and hardened until their love became a small box-like shape right there at the side of the road. No more would either of them walk away, but they would remain together as they were, for all of time.
