On the Road to Wollombi series
THE WOLLOMBI ROAD MURDER. #1
AT the Maitland Assizes (court room) on Wednesday, George Swan was indicted for feloniously, wilfully, and of his malice aforethought, killing and murdering John Barton, near the Ravensfield quarry, in the bush off the Wollombi road on the 18th April 1860 John Barton was on his way to Wollombi, with a dray, to purchase farm produce, poultry and eggs, and appears to have been shot in the temple, and to have fallen dead at once. A sum of £20, which had been handed to him to buy produce with, was found to be missing when the body was found The prisoner pleaded not guilty.
The prisoner said that a more unjust verdict had never been returned in thin known world. He declared, in the face of Almighty God that be was innocent, and he had no doubt that his innocence would sooner or later be established. His Honor then passed sentence of death in the usual form, telling the prisoner to expect no mercy.
This Cache belongs to a series heading around Maitland
these are designed to give beginners some caches to find that are easy
