Tihar is a five-day-long Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal and Indian states. Tihar is analogous to the Indian festival of Diwali, the festival of lights, but with some differences. The Tihar festival of lights celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of knowledge over ignorance, and the dissolution of barriers that separate humans from authentic experience of the world.
Lamps are lit at night during Tihar, similar to the way the lamps along this path light up at dusk.
The second day of Tihar is called Kukur (dog) Tihar. On this day, all dogs, whether pets or strays, are offered treats and worshipped by placing a tika on their forehead and garlands of marigolds around their necks. This day marks the special relationship between humans and dogs, where dogs are thanked and celebrated for their loyalty, service and companionship as guardians and friends.
This seemed a perfect spot for this hide due to the dog walkers and the lanterns. We don't usually see lighted bridges on hiking trails. That must have contributed to the reported cost of this trail. Container is filled with a couple dog toys and doggie themed swag. Feel free to post your canine companion in the log!
