This event is to celebrate the unique public art event ‘Bee in the City’ running in Manchester from 23rd July to 23rd September.
Wild in Art and Manchester City Council are bringing all of Manchester’s communities together for Bee in the City, one of the most spectacular public art events the city has ever seen. Over 80 bees are scattered across the city, near and around the city’s landmarks, why not see how many you can find?
The Bee in the City trail is inspired by Manchester’s celebrated worker bee emblem which has been part of the city’s heraldry for over 150 years and is synonymous with Manchester’s pioneering and creatively industrious spirit. Several theories exist about how the bee became the city's symbol, but a popular one suggests a German architect described Manchester, then rich with mills and factories, as a "hive of activity". The bee symbolising the industry of the city and its people, and was adopted into Manchester's coat of arms in 1842. The bee can be found around the city, including on bollards and in the mosaic tiles of the Town Hall.
Each bee has been designed by a different artist and school and celebrates the unique buzz of Manchester, from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene.
The meeting will be a casual style of meeting with geochat, all welcome between 12.30pm–13:30 pm.
