Sir Gareth –
Gareth is an interesting case. He comes to Camelot in disguise (he is the brother of Gawain) and endures endless abuse from Sir Kay. He defeats he defeats the Black Knight, the Green Knight, the Puce (!) Knight (sometimes called the Red Knight, but Puce is soooo much more interesting), and finally, the Red Knight of the Red Lands, all while enroute to, or defending, the Lady Lyonesse. It is his death at the hands of Lancelot that seals the fate of Arthur’s dream. Modred, Arthur’s bastard son, seizes upon the incident as a cause celeb, leading to the war between Arthur and Lancelot, and Arthur’s death.
