A short multi that should only take around 15mins to complete. At the posted co-ordinates there is a blue board on the footpath outside the church. If you try google earth you won’t get far because the sign is new and not on the current online rendering : ) It has two phone numbers on it, take the first Five numbers of the second phone number and note them as ABCDE. Now solve this puzzle to find the cache: N51 C+D+5. D-E C-B A W002 D+C. D+2 C+B 4
| Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, the journey or location, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or "copy and paste" logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log. |
The church was founded by the Reverend Philip Hunton, who on 24 August 1662 was the vicar of All Saints Parish Church. Because of his refusal to sign the Act of Uniformity he was ejected from that living and later walked up the road and became the first Pastor of the church. It is thought that the first Meeting House was built around 1693. This property was destroyed by fire on 18 July 1711. Legend has it that it was members of All Saints Parish Church who deliberately set fire to the Meeting House. Undaunted by such a catastrophe the members rallied together and within a month the foundation stone was laid for the second Meeting House. The cost was partly offset by the sale of land bequeathed by the Reverend Philip Hunton.
On 25 September 1751 the Reverend John Meylett was appointed Minister. He had decided views on the abolition of slavery. It is thought that some of the wealthy members of the church had interests in sugar plantations and did not appreciate the Minister’s views. This led to a break away and the formation of the Upper Meeting House. The two Congregational Churches were re-united on 8 May 1940. In 1972 the Congregational churches joined with the Presbyterian churches to become the United Reformed Church. The church building has been refurbished over the years and in 2000 the hall was enlarged. Regular users include Westbury Probus, Westbury Lions, and Westbury U3A
Accessibility
Just to confirm, yes, this cache is definetly wheelchair acsessable. The ground is tarmac at the cache, as well as to and from the cache. The cache can be found with ease by a wheelchair user without any assistance.
In Westbury, we have lost 8 geocache just in the past year, so I thought I’d add a few more to put some life back into Geocaching in Westbury.
