ALL SAINTS, WELLINGORE
All Saints, Wellingore is a Grade I listed building, achieving the status on 23 August 1967.
The building dates over several centuries from C12th-C15th with a restoration carried out in 1881.
The plan of the building is a west tower with spire, nave with aisles, north porch and chancel with north chantry chapel. The tower is a plain unbuttressed 3 stage design with a moulded plinth to the west and a single tall lancet. The spire dates from C14th.
Inside the roof, pews, pulpit, font and altar rail are all from the 1881 restoration.
The north chapel contains an important tomb to Sir Richard de Buslingthorpe d.1435. The tomb chest has 3 shields and quatrefoil panelling between and is topped with reclining alabaster figures of a knight and his lady. The tomb was originally painted and traces of the paint can still be seen. This is worth a visit inside the building itself.
