“MOONTAN BIKER’S” - WHALE BEACH
A strange & sad event which happened in May 1950 where an estimated 147 pilot whales stranded themselves upon Thorntonloch Beach.
There are many theories as to why whales beach themselves, subsea earthquakes, storms, explosions etc & the whales can be affected by fluctuations of the magnetic field & this leads them to go in the wrong direction.
Crowds of 30,000 - 40,000 swarmed to the beach over the weekend to see this sad site.
With this in mind I thought it would be nice if cachers who decide to take a walk along this stunning beach to see where this tradgety occurred could do their little bit for the environment, picking up just 1 piece of plastic or any other form of litter & post a picture of what you have collected, it will be interesting to see over time just how much we have collected. I visit this beach most nights with my dog & often the bairns come too, we always pick up some plastic & take it home to put in our recycle bins, on one day alone after a storm from the north we each filled a carrier bag each & there was still more that could of been collected if we had enough bags !
Happy caching & enjoy the walk.
