Granite is a common type of igneous rock that is granular and phaenerite in texture. Granites can be predominantly white, pink, or gray in color, depending on their mineralogy. The word "granite" comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a holocrystalline rock. Strictly speaking, granite is an igneous rock with between 20% and 60% quartz by volume, and at least 35% of the total feldspar consisting of alkali feldspar, although commonly the term "granite" is used to refer to a wider range of coarse-grained igneous rocks containing quartz and feldspar.

Sandstone is a composed mainly of grain of sand size mineral particles or rock fragments and is a sedimentary rock. It is composed mostly of feldspar and quartz. Both of these are resistant to weathering that occurs on the earth's surface. Sandstone comes in many different colours this is largely as a result of where it is from.

Limestone is a another sedimentary rock, composed mainly of skeletal fragments of marine organisms. It is made up of different crystal forms of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) due to the different levels of calcite and aragonite. Approximately 10% of all sedimentary rocks are limestones. The solubility of limestone in leads to karst landscapes, in which water. Most cave networks are through limestone bedrock which has
eroded the limestone over thousands or even millions of years from water and weak acid solutions
