Geocache Description:

Millennium Way: Panorama Rocks

The cache, a small click 'n' lock box, is hidden at the back of this rocky outcrop along the Bradford Millennium Way (BMW).

To access the cache:

a) from below (steep climb, 600m distance): park in the lay-by at N 53 55.297 W 1 50.937on Heber's Ghyll Drive and make your way up through the woods on the main path which winds its way steeply upwards, exiting the woodland west of the bridge over Black Beck @ at N 53 55.084 W 1 51.031. Then head the short distance east along the BMW past the small rest area to the rocky home of the cache.

b) from the east (easy contour, 1km distance): park in the lay-by on Keighley Road at N 53 55.046 W 1 50.031 and then join and follow the BMW west for about 1km to the cache area, passing the reservoir en route.

The location - as do many in these parts - provides a wonderful panoramic view overlooking Heber's Ghyll Woods directly below, the western part of Ilkley, the Wharfe Valley running northwest-east and the nearby Panorama Reservoir to the east. To the south are the wild open expanses of Rombalds Moor.

The outcrop is just off the relatively new 72km (45mi) Bradford Millennium Way circular long-distance path, a 2000 Millennium Year route within the Bradford Metropolitan boundary which visits many sites of interest including Bronte Falls, White Wells and Shipley Glen. It also takes in Denholme, Oxenhope and Silsden passing through woodland, farmland and moorland.

It was devised and waymarked by the Bradford Countryside Volunteers and officially opened on 16 September 2000.

16 shorter circular walks link with the BMW enabling the route to be walked in shorter sections.

According to the BMW Hall of Fame, the record for walking it is 13 hours 45 minutes! There is an annual BMW relay which is run in 5 legs and completed in under 5.5 hours.

The section where the cache is hidden runs from its junction with the Dalesway Link path, some 2km east near White Wells, and west past the cache location then along the cache-filled Addingham Ridge as far as Windgate Nick where it descends down to Moorside Lane near Ghyll House Farm.
