Where: Yoleni's - 292 Westminster Street Providence, RI When: Sunday, August 5th What Time: 9:30am-10:00am Why: Come by to swap stories and trackables and connect with local Geocachers Additional Info: On-street parking is FREE on Sunday! Please Note: No one attending the event is under any obligation to purchase anything from this establishment The (sort of long) Backstory: We were enjoying breakfast at Yoleni's, our new favorite Greek resturant and marketplace located down-city inside the beautiful turn of the century former Tilden-Thurber department store, when we noticed that a new cache had just been released less than two blocks away. (MUGGLE GC7RQG9) I thought FOR SURE that no one would attempt this early morning find in Providence but was surprised to find several Geocachers already searching near GZ when we arrived. Even though they were practicing extreme stealth, it was obvious to us what they were doing, and why they were there. We walked over and introduced ourselves and quickly realized that we recognized their caching names from seeing them in logs, it was great to be able to put some names to faces. As a large group, we searched the block for a while, and to my surprise, this talented group of Geocachers came up empty handed. We reluctantly logged a DNF and set this cache to our watch list. Imagine our excitement when we saw that two cachers from the morning group had returned later that evening and were able to sign the log! A quick congratulatory message to them and request for more info, turned up that they were sworn to secrecy from the CO but they encouraged me to reach out to direct to them for an additional nudge. We did just that and the friendly CO responded with a very helpful hint that led us to the clue we needed to be able to return to make the find. When we rolled up to GZ a few days later, we noticed a person sprawled out, sleeping on the sidewalk near GZ. (it was 9:30am) I thought about searching quietly around them, as not to disturb their slumber, or perhaps offering to buy them a cup of coffee to entice them to move from the area, but I had my son with me and he was uncomfortable with both options, so I called off the search. Knowing that I was walking away - so close but still so far away - from signing the log left me filled with disappointment. Fast forward to the following day, where I made my way to GZ (alone) on my lunch break, quickly located the cache, and triumphantly signed the log. This cache was great fun and I'm hoping that by hosting the event just down the street that others will take the walk over to experience it for themselves. I'll be there too - for moral support and hopefully have the chance to enjoy watching others try to make the find.
