On the Road to Wollombi series

THE WOLLOMBI ROAD SCIENTIFIC VISIT. #14

Visit to Wollombi.
A party of Cessnock scientists including Messrs. Jack Wilson, John Hill, Diskon, Ponto Shee ban, Raymond Lord, John Rob ertson, Yank Brown, and a couple of others who have in view the publication of the history of the district motored to the Wollombi caves on Sunday for research purposes. The party were astonished at the magnificence of the caves, and were well repaid for their visit. Mr. Hill, in his usual impressive and imaginative style, pointed out the historic value of the caves, and soon had his conferees living in the past when the blacks roamed the Wollombi district and inhabited the caves, and later, when Yellow Billy and other ' men of the road' made these caves their home. At the suggestion of Mr. Yank Brown, who is an ardent student of research, the party paid a visit to Mr. Tom Harris, licensee of the Wollombi Hotel, who is a well known authority on caves, cave dwellers, bullocks, race-horses, etc. The suggestion was immediately taken up, and the party were soon at the old Wollombi meeting house discussing details, and after taking in a supply of petrol, the party returned. The students intend paying the caves another visit at an early date, and Mr. Wilson has announced his intention of using his influence to induce the Tourist Department to have photos taken of the caves and advertise the district
