The Chandler Trail. A chance to take a nice Sunday drive with the kids from From Armidale to Wollomombi, with a loop back around via Thorpleigh Road, and grab some easy caches along the way (no hints!).
You are on private property here where the road meanders through the paddocks containing sheep and cattle. One of the major activities on the New England area's farms is the production of fine and superfine wool. The best wool comes off the dry ewes and wethers (castrated rams) and while dry years can result in finer wool, it can also result in a weaker fibre. Beef cattle are the other major industry, with many farms running Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn, Charolais or Murray Grey. A lot of trees have given way to grassland in the pursuit of grazing, haymaking, or as a result of disease/dieback, so it's nice to see some really interesting old trees still about.
Please bear in mind this route will take you through private properties with cattle and sheep in the paddocks the road passes through (even if you don't see them). If you have dogs with you please keep them on a lead so the locals don't become anxious, as they do have problems with wild dogs out here.
So please stay on the road, drive carefully and enjoy :)
