Driving north on the A23 as one traverses the long section of elevated highway between the two tunnels, over the Lago di Cavazzo, one may notice to the west a curious big red fish hanging high on a cliff face. This marks a rock climbing site, and above the fish high on the top of the cliff there is a very obvious church. This is the Pieve di Santo Stefano, and is NOT the church where this cache is located. Instead, look BELOW the fish to spot the less obvious and much smaller Chiesa di San Candido, which I have named the Church of the Red Fish. To reach this interesting place you have to be on the SR512 above the village of Somplago. At the trailhead waypoint an asphalt road leads to the church. It's forbidden to drive on this road (although I always find cars parked by the church) but it's possible to park on a grassy patch by the trailhead and do the short walk to the church. The church itself dates from the 14th century, but was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1928, restored in 1959, damaged again in the 1976 earthquake and restored in 1982, so it looks a little different than it did in past centuries. The cache has had to be moved to a new spot about 30m down the road from the church after the original one disappeared. See new spoiler picture. GPS is pretty useless in the area because the big cliff blocks out half the sky. The cache is on the roadside so no need to go into the bushes!Look at the map.
Guidando verso nord sulla A23 attraversando il lungo viadotto fra le due gallerie, sopra il Lago di Cavazzo, si può notare ad ovest un curioso pesce rosso appeso in alto su una scogliera. Questo segna una palestra di roccia, e sopra il pesce in cima alla scogliera c'è una chiesa molto ovvia. Questa è la Pieve di Santo Stefano, e NON è la chiesa in cui si trova questa cache. Invece, guarda di SOTTO il pesce per individuare la Chiesa di San Candido meno ovvia e molto più piccola, che ho nominato la Chiesa del Pesce Rosso. Per raggiungere questo luogo interessante devi essere sulla SR512 un po' sopra del villaggio di Somplago. Dal waypoint, una strada asfaltata conduce alla chiesa. È vietato passare in macchina su questa strada (anche se trovo sempre le macchine parcheggiate vicino alla chiesa) ma è possibile parcheggiare su una zona erbosa vicino al bivio e fare una breve passeggiata fino alla chiesa. La chiesa stessa risale al XIV secolo, ma fu gravemente danneggiata dal terremoto del 1928, restaurata nel 1959, danneggiata nuovamente nel terremoto del 1976 e restaurata di nuovo nel 1982, quindi sembra attualmente un po 'diverso rispetto ai secoli passati. La cache è stato spostato in un posto nuovo, sulla strada circa 30m dalla chiesa, dopo quella originale è scomparsa. Vedi foto "new spoiler" GPS non funziona bene nella zona perchè la roccia blocca mezzo del cielo. La cache si trova lungo la strada quindi non cercare dentro il bosco. Basta guardare la cartina.
