Geocache Description:

Willingdon Linear Park opened on July 21, 2018. This urban park consists of a meandering path, two pocket parks, and greenspace covering thirteen blocks, which is approximately 1.2 kilometers. Previously, homes existed where the park is today. Many of the residents are happy with the new park as it provides a safe walk-way between Brentwood Mall and Confederation Park, and it was a much-needed improvement to the landscape. Residents of the new high-rises at Brentwood Town Centre are now provided with access to a library, a pool, an exercise area, and a senior’s centre.

The walk-way is meant to resemble a beautiful stream. Waterways were important to the development of the city of Burnaby, so it makes sense to make a park that looks like the way Willingdon Linear Park does! The pocket parks match the theme as well, and the colours on the metal walls would also indicate a passing stream nearby the mountains. Burnaby’s motto is “by river and sea, rise Burnaby!” and so the park can be seen to represent that motto in the heart of North Burnaby

This park was supported by the Burnaby municipality because this helps fulfill its promise to add more park areas throughout the city. The price tag of $15 million to complete this park was shared between the city, the developers, and TransLink. We hope you enjoy a nice walk in North Burnaby!

This is a small kid’s climbing zone, and it is one of the pocket parks along the park. Shaped like an eddy, the climbing area is circular with rises and falls.
