Geocache Description:

As we have cached ourselves out at Widgee I've decided to look for another venue to hold our New Year Event that has similar facilities. So with deep consultations with youngoldfella we have come up with Kilkivan Show Grounds. The home of The Great Kilkivan Horse Ride.

This years event will be starting at 0800 on Tuesday 1st January 2019 and finish at 1600 Tuesday 1st January 2019. Camping can be from Friday 28th December 2018 until Wednesday 2nd January 2019, please let me know when you will be arriving and how long you will be staying.

Recommend you bring your GPS or have the ability to use your phone off line for geocaching.

The Event is open to all players, new, old, young, in-between, seniors, 0 or 100000+

We have the use of the Show grounds. HQ will be under the bar area with plenty of tables, BYO chairs

There are Toilets and Hot showers and plenty of excellent powered sites for caravans.

Don't forget that this is country, phone reception is not the best. Although, there now is good reception around Kilkivan, but how far outside the town has not been tested. A safe bet is to BRING YOUR GPS
There is also a new NBN tower for the area.

This event is primarily for the new Geocachers on the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay area (and anyone else that wants to travel) to meet up and learn the finer points about Geocaching. Like the last couple, I hope that the oldies will pair up with a Newbie and willingly give some coaching.

There will be FTF draws for the newbies on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Might add that there is a good mix of T/D's on the new caches.

Some of the old caches in the state forests and national parks are not recommended to do alone as there is a real risk of a misadventure occurring if one is a little inattentive to ones surroundings. Only one or two old caches require the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles or special equipment, for the rest we recommend the use of only vehicles of medium to high clearance.

This years cache hides will be in the surrounding Kilkivan country side and nearby State Forests and National Parks in the area. Hopefully, not a micro anywhere to be seen.

Don't forget all the caches that were placed for previous events are still there and would love some more signatures in their logbooks.

Cache placement is open to anyone, please pick a day during the event for release and ask the reviewer for release on the evening of that day.
Anyone placing a cache, please contact me with the details, so we don't overlap, and the info can be given out on the day to the Geocaching Community attending.

Anyone with under 100  will qualify for the Newbies FTF draw.

Dogs are allowed on to the Showgrounds,

A note for all dog owners, QPWS and Gympie Regional Council have placed a lot of 1080 bates (for wild dogs) around and in all State Forests in the Gympie and surrounding QPWS controlled locations.

For those camping over the weekend, there will be a small fee of $18.00 per night per campsite including power and water, a gold coin donation for those attending daily. This is to help cover the other costs of the event.

BYO food and drinks, Although Kilkivan has local Store with food and fuel available.

There will be a BBQ available during the event and a fridge available to campers for keeping their Tbones in

Hopefully, on New Years Eve subject to the weather, we will be able to have a camp fire to help celebrate the end of 2018 and welcoming the beginning of 2019.
