Geocache Description:

A kid-friendly, family-oriented event to celebrate this most beautiful time of year in Florida.

08 Sep 18, 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. - Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park

The time and date were chosen out of consideration for those avid local football fans.  You may come early, stay late, or even camp.

Once again we are planning an event oriented especially for the children, who are so often only "tag-alongs" to adult events.  Every cache is kid-friendly (but adult supervision is advised), and the trails, spings (yes, there are FIVE), and other available outdoor activities are suitable for most children.  This park is usually VERY busy, so PLEASE be aware of everyone's safety while on the property, so that your family can take home nothing but great memories.

This event is a "none-structured" event, which basically means that the park itself is the entertainment (in other words, no planned games), where swimming, hiking the trail, eating, volleyball, and geocaching will make for a full day.  Likewise, this is a "BYOP" event (Bring Your Own Picnic).  If you want to bring something to share, that would be great, but if you want to grill, you will need to bring your own supplies.  The coordinates for the event are for an area where there are plenty of picnic tables.  There are canoes and kayaks that can be rented, or you can bring your own (you can even paddle in from other locations, like Rum Island Pk. across the river).

There will be approximately 12 new geocaches published in the park (or surrounding area) for this event, thanks to both the invitation and permission of park manager, Lucinda, whose experience with geocaching and geocachers at the VanFleet Trail Park convinced her that she wanted to introduce them into this newest of Florida State parks (at the time of this listing).

Hours:

The Park is open from 8 a.m. to sundown, 365 days per year.

Admission Fee

  • $6 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle
  • $4 Single Occupant Vehicle. 1 person in vehicle
