Poarta a IV-a, numită în trecut şi „Poarta Episcopului”, este situată în partea de vest a Cetăţii, în zona mediană a curtinei ce uneşte bastioanele Sf. Mihail şi Trinitarienilor. Prevăzută cu o singură intrare, carosabilă, şi cu pod mobil la exterior, ea permitea accesul în incintă după trecerea de celelalte două porţi de pe latura de vest (a V-a şi a VI-a). Poarta a IV-a, alături de celelalte trei de pe latura de est, prin decoraţia plastică a faţadei, face parte dintr-un amplu program propagandistic, menit să glorifice persoana împăratului Carol al VI-lea şi, totodată, reprezintă un valoros monument de artă barocă transilvăneană, datând din primele decenii ale secolului al XVIII-lea.

The Fourth Gate, known formerly as “Bishop’s Gate”, is located on the western side of the fortress, in the intermediate zone of the defensive wall connecting St. Michael and Trinitarians bastions. Having one entrance for vehicles, with mobile bridge on the outside, it allowed access inside the fortress after passing two other gates located on the western side (fifth and sixth gates). The fourth gate, just like the other three gates on the eastern side, displays a decoration belonging to a vast propagandistic program aiming to glorify the Emperor Charles VI. It is at the same time a valuable monument of Transylvanian Baroque from the eighteenth century.
