THE EVENT
During the first part of our get-together we will gather just as the Whovillians did in the beloved story. We'll play Christmas songs, eat Christmas Cookies, get presents and shower the geocaching love of Cindy Lou Who upon each other. Everyone is encouraged to wear red or green in order to make the event festive. Feel free to bring or wear any type of Chrismas bling that will enhance the cheerful occasion. A few prizes will be given out to some those who get extra creative in spreading the Christmas joy. Everyone is also asked to bring 1 small piece of SWAG that will be used during the challenge.
TRACKABLES EXCHANGE
As usual, we will have a trackables exchange if anyone chooses to bring one. Please make sure to log the trackable you bring into the event.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge will begin at 2:45 after you have stuffed yourself with Christmas cookies, socialized with your fellow geocachers and opened presents. All who are feeling adventurous will don their snowshoes and soon be off on a quest to locate the Whoville Christmas that the Grinch has stolen.
You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch
You really are a heel,
You're as cuddly as a cactus, you're as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch,
You're a bad banana with a greasy black peel!
The first person or team to find the stolen Whoville Christmas gets to keep it.
The challenge will be in the form of a Wherigo, so if you don’t already have it on your smartphones, you will need to download the Wherigo app. Below are the links to use for your particular type of smartphone.
For the Iphones it’s called Wherigo https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wherigo/id385035547?mt=8
For the Androids it’s called WhereYouGo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=menion.android.whereyougo
For those of you who don’t geocache with a smartphone, if you have a gps that accepts Wherigo cartridges, you can do the cartridge download by bringing a laptop computer with you. There is wifi access at a nearby donut shop so you can download there.
You will also need to set up an account at http://www.wherigo.com/ .
If you are new to Wherigo geocaches, I would suggest that sometime before the event you learn how to download a Werigo cartridge into your smartphone so you won’t get slowed up at the challenge. Here is a link to one of our local Wherigos so you can practice the download. https://coord.info/GC4ZVZ7
Looking forward to seeing everyone there at the event.
Stop by the The Deadliest Cachers web site. We’d love to see you.
