Geocache Description:

This section of the Eramosa River is approximately 6km long and runs from the community of Everton to Rockwood. The name Eramosa was derived from the native word Un-ne-mo-sah, possibly meaning "black dog", "dead dog", or simply "dog".

The first half of this section of the Eramosa River is a pleasant and easy paddle with no noticeable flow to the river. By the time you get to the middle section, expect to enter and exit your kayak often. You will probably be doing more walking than actual paddling in the second half of this section. Much of the riverbed in the part that you will be walking on contains fist sized rocks so wear good hiking shoes that you don't mind getting wet. Because of this, it is recommended that you kayak and not canoe if doing the entire section. Tubes or inflatables are not suitable for the Eramosa River. If you just want to enjoy a pleasant paddle, then you can do the top half of this section starting in Everton and paddle back to where you put in, which would be about 6km round trip and would be appropriate for a canoe too...you would just need to get out once near the beginning.

If paddling this section of the river in early Spring when water levels are high, you may encounter some class I and II rapids. There were none here when these caches were placed in August. Overall this is a unique journey down a seldom travelled river. Enjoy the peacefulness of the area away from civilization.
