Geocache Description:


While checking out tracks in our local area we found information on a track called "Blessington Track and Cape Deliverance" which is managed by the Clarence City Council. It looked like a likely spot to put some caches on and the whole trail is described below:

"A beautiful coastal walk offering sweeping views of the Derwent estuary which finishes at Pot Beach and provides excellent views of the Iron Pot Lighthouse. The Blessington Track is narrow and undulating as it follows the coast reserve to Fort Beach 1.7km away so not suited to unsteady walkers. Continue to walk along Fort Beach to the track at the end that goes onto Cape Deliverance and the Lone Pine Memorial. Pot Beach is on the other side of the cape where there are views to Iron Pot and Bruny Island North." (taken from greaterhobarttrails.com.au)

This new cache and four others have been placed on the part of the trail which begins at Fort Beach to the track that goes onto Cape Deliverance, past Lone Pine Memorial and onto Pot Beach and can be accessed by parking in the playground carpark on Blessington Street (see Carpark WP). The beach part of the walk is level but may include climbing over low beach rocks if tide is high and approximately just over 1 km to the furthest cache.

From the playground walk along Fort Beach. You may need to check tides as the water comes up fairly high in this area. Dogs are allowed in the area and must be on a leash as signposted on Cape Deliverance. Please stay on tracks when you pass through Fort Direction.

From GZ there are fantastic coastal views. Please watch out for cliff edges in this area.

Near GZ is the Lone Pine Memorial. Please take a moment to reflect at the memorial.

"The Lone Pine Memorial consists of a dedication pedestal with a pathway leading to a memorial circle which consists of seven pedestals.

Each pedestal has a plaque dedicated to seven soldiers of the 1st Australian Infantry Division who were each awarded the Victoria Cross for their actions at Gallipoli between the 7th and 9th August 1915 at Gallipoli. There was originally seven pines planted at the memorial site but these have not survived and a single pine has been planted." (taken from Monument Australia}

This monument was dedicated by His Excellency General Sir Phillip Bennett A.C., K.B.E., D.S.O. Governor of Tasmania on Monday, 1 March 1993.
