The Gara Loop. A chance to take a short Sunday drive with the kids from Armidale along the Gara Road and grab some easy caches along the way. Go a little further and connect to the Hillgrove-Metz trail on the other side of Cooney Creek!
Please bear in mind some parts of this route will take you through private properties with cattle and sheep - mostly sheep - in the paddocks the road passes through (even if you don't see them). If you have dogs with you please keep them on a lead so the locals don't become anxious, as they do have problems with wild dogs out here.
So please stay on the road, drive carefully and enjoy :)
The construction of the "Gara Station" gateway is post-and-rail style and for those interested, the carving of the lettering was done with a chainsaw rather than a router. On the left side of the gate, the top line of the address is carved into a 'round' or 'roundback' of Tallowood, while the second line is carved into Bluegum. All done by hand with the slabs balanced across a couple of 44-gallon drums. The letterbox is a bit of chainsaw 'art' as well :)
Please replace the carefully arranged camo just as you found it.
