This cache is dedicated to NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip. This is a regular sized, racing themed cache. Please mention your favorite race car driver if you have one when you log your find. Also, if you want to trade swag, please trade racing or car related swag if at all possible. Please do not remove the display inside the cache!
My husband schig80 and I created our first cache with a racing theme, because we love the sport. Michael Waltrip is my favorite driver, and my husband is a Dale Earnhardt Jr fan. Both our drivers retired, and we now root for Bubba Wallace, Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, Trevor Bayne, and Michael McDowell. But nobody will replace our favorites.
If you’re not familiar with NASCAR, you might ask who is Michael Waltrip.
Michael – or Mikey, as he is affectionately known in the sport – is a race car driver, team owner, commentator, runner, dancer, writer, actor, and all around good guy. I’ve been a fan of Mikey’s since the very first interview I saw with him after he won the second Daytona 500 qualifier race on February 14th, 2002. Watching him talk to his four-year-old daughter Macy rather than to the camera, I knew that he’s my favorite driver and always will be. He’s not just my favorite driver; he’s one of my favorite people. I admire him for his resiliency, humility, intelligence, and charisma. And I love how he takes care of his fans! We’ve met him more times than I can count.
Mikey has an extensive racing career. He competed in NASCAR races for thirty-three years. He had 784 Cup series starts, from the 1985 World 600 in Charlotte until the 2017 Daytona 500. He has four Cup wins and is a two-time Daytona 500 champion. He also won in other NASCAR series. He was a car owner for many years too. He gave twenty-eight drivers the opportunity to go racing in the Cup Series, and he has seven Cup Series wins as a team owner.
Mikey’s racing extends outside NASCAR. He competed in 24 Hour endurance races. He has also raced in Japan, Dubai, and Europe. And he races on foot too! He’s an avid runner and ran the Boston Marathon in 2000.
As his racing career wound down, Mikey’s career as a commentator revved up. He interviews drivers during the Cup series pre-race show and commentates for other NASCAR series. Mikey has also served as a panelist on various racing shows since 1996, providing brilliant insights and humor wherever he appears.
Mikey does charity work with his brother Darrell. Other ventures include writing an autobiography, participating in a dance reality show (google “Michael Waltrip Robin Hood Waltz” for my favorite dance), and appearing in two episodes of a TV show.
