Alexander Pond is a small semi-remote water body located just outside the Village of Newark Valley, NY, and is owned by Newark Valley Central Schools. This area is peaceful and quiet. Road noise cannot normally be heard up here and the only unnatural sounds are the planes flying overhead. This pond is used for a variety of activities such as fishing, cookouts, boating/kayaking and hking. The hiking trails around the pond have a variety of labeled trees that gives information about the tree and some of its applications.
Gateway to Alexander is a geocache placed at the beginning of the roadway leading to the pond. Standard park rules apply for visit times and no motor vehicles are allowed off the established roadway. I would call the roadway past the gateway a seasonal road. Access to the cache can be gained by traveling Barber Road in Newark Valley. The road starts out paved and turns to gravel with one single lane bridge on the way.
This entryway can also be used as a secondary access point to the nearby Multi-cache named "Crazy Alexander". I suggest hiking the area for "Crazy Alexander" to see all there is to be seen in this location. Approriate footwear is reccommended as it can be muddy and wet in areas.
