It seems that the cache has evolved and migrated up to the sign. Love that it is growing.
The original tale of Sleepy Hollow that was set in 1790 in the countryside around a quaint Dutch settlement of New York is truly legend. We read about it as children, are taunted by it around Halloween, and are even faced with it in pop culture. But little do people know that there is a continuation to the legend.
The legend relates the tale of Ichabod Crane who competes with "Brom Bones" Van Brunt for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter of a wealthy farmer, Baltus Van Tassel. After having failed to secure Katrina's hand, Ichabod rides home "heavy-hearted and crestfallen" through the woods between Van Tassel's farmstead and the Sleepy Hollow settlement where Ichabod encounters a cloaked rider at an intersection in a menacing swamp. Unsettled by his fellow traveler's eerie size and silence, the teacher is horrified to discover that his companion's head is not on his shoulders, but on his saddle. In a frenzied race for his life, they race toward a church bridge where Ichabod is attacked with the flaming head of the horseman. The next morning, Ichabod had disapeared from town.
