Geocache Description:

Name the Golden Horseshoe Town represented by this Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was registered on Oct 15, 1993. The origin of today's Town is that it was founded by United Empire Loyalists in 1798. In 1818 the Town was renamed in recognition of the marriage of Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. These events are recognized in the shield, which shows two lions supporting a white rose. The lions are derived from the British Arms, and the rose is taken from the badge of the house of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha. The embattled line as well as the two circular annulets symbolize the town's military associations. They are all protecting the maple leaf, top center. The crest shows a crown palisado which refers to the early settlement. The green hill and the water lines indicate the geographical position beside Lake Ontario. The stag is taken from the arms of Ontario, and the leaf from the Canadian arms. The Town's motto is emblazoned below
