La Croce dei Wasma (così chiamata dal nome della località, che significa "appezzamenti di terreno") fu eretta dagli abitanti di Macugnaga preoccupati per l'eccessivo avanzamento dei ghiacci e per le devastanti valanghe e alluvioni conseguenti alla piccola era glaciale. È quindi sempre stata meta di processioni rogazionali, e tutt'oggi è il luogo in cui vengono annualmente benedetti pascoli e ghiacciai nella sera della domenica più prossima alla festa dei Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo (25 luglio). Per l'occasione viene portata in processione alla Croce la bella statua lignea della Madonna dei Ghiacciai custodita nella chiesa di Pecetto. The Wasma Cross (so called from the name of the locality, which means "land plots") was erected by the inhabitants of Macugnaga worried about the excessive progress of the ice and the devastating avalanches and floods resulting from the Little ice age. It has therefore always been a destination for rogational processions, and today it is the place where pastures and glaciers are blessed on the evening of the Sunday closest to the feast of Saints James and Christopher (25 July). For the occasion, the beautiful wooden statue of the Madonna dei Ghiacciai guarded in the church of Pecetto is carried in procession to the Cross.
