The beloved and historic Clamshell Railroad transported people, oysters, cranberries and more up and down the Long Beach Peninsula before there were paved roads! Known as the train that ran by the tide table, not by the time table, retrace the whistle stops and learn about the early days of transportation out here at the "end of the road".
The Megler stop was an important connection to the rest of the world, literally! Until fairly recent times, the only way to get to the south shore of the Columbia River at its mouth and points beyond was to travel by ferry after taking the train from one of many points up and down the Long Beach peninsula. This was the last stop before the train reversed direction and headed back towards Ilwaco, Long Beach, and points north.
