Gapyeong 5 day market has a long history of 95 years and is one of the oldest markets in northern Gyunggido. Since the end of the Korean War the market was moved several times, but has been fixed at the current location since the 1980s. The market opens every 5 days on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th. Which is why it is called the 5 day market.
However, since 2016 the market has opened every Saturday between April and October to better accomidate weekend travelers and farmers wishing to sell their goods. There are Gapyoung specialties at this market and even a Jazz festival at the end of the Season. If you are lucky you might witness famous musicians on the Saturday Special Stage, on Saturday nights.
