Geocache Description:

Bâtiment de style néogothique, la Basilique Saint-Patrick a été construite entre 1843 et 1847 pour offrir un lieu de culte aux immigrants catholiques anglophones d'origine irlandaise arrivés dès 1830.

L'église est connue pour ses carillons de Saint-Patrick, ses dix cloches, dont la plus ancienne, appelée Charlotte, fut installée en 1774 et utilisée dans l'ancienne église Notre-Dame.

Elle a été désignée monument historique en 1985, élevée au rang de basilique mineure par Jean-Paul II et déclarée lieu historique du Canada en 1990.

A neo-Gothic building, St. Patrick's Basilica was built between 1843 and 1847 to provide a place of worship for English-speaking Roman Catholic immigrants of Irish origin who arrived in 1830.

The church is known for its St. Patrick's bells, its ten bells, the oldest of which, called Charlotte, was installed in 1774 and used in the old Notre-Dame church.

It was designated a historic monument in 1985, upgraded to a minor basilica by John Paul II and declared a Canadian Historic Site in 1990.
