This cache is being placed for the GilSUMMER Gathering #5, to be held on September 8, 2018.
This cache is near the beginning of a 1.6-mile loop trail called the Murdough Hill Meander, developed by the Nelson Conservation Committee.
Parking is along Granite Lake Road at N43° 00.816 W072° 09.089. There is a small parking area, as well as roadside parking for up to three cars. In the parking area is a mailbox holding informative brochures about the trail. Before getting to the cache, you will cross two bridges and pass the site of the Asa Stone Mill. Stonework has been preserved, as well as sizable pieces of the millstone and other artifacts. Please don't disturb the artifacts.
The mill was built in the 1790s as a saw and gristmill. It changed hands several times, becoming a cotton mill at one point. In the 1840s it again became a sawmill. It ceased operation around 1890.
The cache is a winter friendly canister about 30 feet off the trail in open woods.
Thanks to the Nelson Conservation Committee for suggesting the area and granting permission for the cache.
