Geocache Description:

This is my first cache placement. I like coming to Caldicot to visit the castle and a local cafe. The cache will be maintained by my grandparents lefthanded99 and Mathsteacher, who I go caching with.

Caldicot Methodist Church was built in 1895 to replace on older, smaller church which stood roughly where the supermarket now stands on the other side of Newport Road. Always a fairly large building, the original design allowed for 280 seated congregants, with capacity for a further 250 in the separate schoolroom. During the 1980s when Caldicot was undergoing a lot of re-generation, the inside of the Church was literally turned around. The organ was dismantled and rebuilt in the opposite corner; the pulpit was altered to just a small one in the corner; the back windows became the front windows; the back wall knocked down and replaced by a removable partition which could be opened for special services; the porch was enlarged and a new doorway made, and chairs replaced the pews for flexibility. The most recent improvement, the two-storey annexe, was opened in 1996. (Source: Centenary booklet written by Peter Strong of Caldicot Local History Society).

The cache has now been changed to a black nano, and is not on church property. Bring your own pen, tweezers may be required.
