Geocache Description:

This is a three stage multi with two virtual stages and a final cache.

The first stage will bring you to Ajax’s Heritage Red Oak tree.  This historic tree overlooking Lake Ontario is estimated to have been planted between 1790 and 1815.   This tree is located along the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail but at one time this land was part of a 5,000 acre land grant provided to Major John Smith for his loyal service in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces during the American Revolution.

Stage #1    At the posted coordinates you will find a plaque titled Heritage Red Oak.

1.  What year was Maj John Smith provided his land grant?  Take the 2nd and 3rd number in this year and call this two digit number A.

2.  In 1955 when the Town of Ajax was incorporated, this tree was likely already ______ years old.  Take this three digit number and call it B.

Use this formula to determine stage 2.

Subtract A from the posted North coordinate ( N 43 49.279  -  A)    = new North coordinate

Next take B + 11, then add this number to the posted West coordinate ( W 79 00.806 + (B + 11) = new West Coordinate

Stage 2:  You are looking at a tree planted by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Ajax with a plaque below the tree.

What year did H.M.S (initials)   become a member of council = C

What year did H.M.S. become Mayor = D

To find the final cache, complete the following math equation. (Note: disregard the period and add or subtract from the entire set of numbers.)

N43 47.129   + C =   Final North Coordinate

W79 03.125 – D =  Final West Coordinate
