Woolooware Bay
A cache by the bay.
This cache brings you to the recently completed walk/cycle way linking Atkinson Rd to Woodlands Rd on an elevated viewing platform overlooking the foreshore of Woolooware Bay, Botany Bay and the world heritage wetlands of Towra Point.
The area was once completely swampland and considered rural until the 1940’s when the only way here was via a ferry from Sans Souci. The Lewis family were one of the first settlers here and over 4 generations were a large part of the development of the area, particularly in the oyster, speedboat building and marine maintenance industries.
The area is also home to endangered migratory birds, a large mangrove population, a Nissen Hut and historic jetty. In such a small area there is a great concentration of history and the environment and there are many story boards close by portraying all the above as well as some historical photographs.
Great to see the local council putting some money back into the community, after all their coffers must be full with the income from rate payers and the over development of our beautiful shire.
