Prima di percorrere il sentiero naturalistico informarsi sulla sua percorribilità presso la locale sede del CAI, l'ufficio di informazioni turistiche o il personale degli impianti di risalita.

Il Sentiero Naturalistico di Macugnaga misura poco più di 20 chilometri, con un dislivello in salita di 1260 metri e altrettanti in discesa. Richiede circa 8 ore effettive di percorso, ossia una decina di ore complessive. È quindi consigliabile dividerlo in due tappe con pernottamento al rifugio Zamboni e Zappa all’alpe Pedriola. Un’altra opzione è quella di percorrere le due (o più) tappe non consecutivamente: esistono infatti diverse possibilità per accorciare il percorso, sia in salita sia in discesa, utilizzando i raccordi che da fondovalle portano al Sentiero Naturalistico partendo da Ronco, da Opaco, da Salzgabe e dall’alpe Burky.
La cache #1
La cache numero 1 è posizionata nei pressi dell’antico forno di Isella, pittoresca frazione che custodisce alcune delle abitazioni in legno più antiche di Macugnaga e punto di partenza del Sentiero Naturalistico. La costruzione, risalente al 1703 e un tempo dedicata alla panificazione annuale da parte della popolazione Walser, è tuttora utilizzata in occasione della festa della frazione, solitamente organizzata il primo fine settimana dopo la solennità dell’Assunta. Poco distante sorge la minuscola chiesetta, le cui pareti sono costellate di ex voto, edificata a partire dal 1701 e dedicata alla Madonna Addolorata.
Per raggiungere la cache numero 2, dall’ingresso della chiesetta di Isella si imbocca il sentiero con l’indicazione per il Lago delle Fate, che attraversa i prati circostanti la frazione e si trasforma quindi in una bella mulattiera lastricata che si inoltra nel bosco in direzione di Motta.

The Macugnaga Nature Trail measures just over 20 kilometers, with an uphill difference in height of 1260 meters and the same downhill. It takes about 8 hours of effective travel, or a dozen of the total mineral. It is therefore advisable to divide it into two stages with overnight stay at the Zamboni and Zappa refuge at Alpe Pedriola. Another option is to follow the two (or more) non-consecutive stages: in fact, there are different possibilities to shorten the route, both uphill and downhill, for the junctions that from the valley bottom lead to the Naturalistic Path starting from Ronco, from Opaco , from Salzgabe and from the Burky alp.
The cache # 1
The cache number 1 is located near the ancient oven of Isella, a picturesque hamlet that contains some of the oldest wooden works of Macugnaga and the starting point of the Naturalistic Path. The building, dating back to 1703 and once dedicated to bread-making by the population, is still engaged on the feast of the hamlet, after having organized the first day after the solemnity of the Assumption. Not far away is the tiny church, whose walls are studded with votive offerings, built starting in 1701 and dedicated to the Madonna Addolorata.
To reach the cache number 2, from the entrance of the little church of Isella, take the path with the indication for Lago delle Fate, which crosses the meadows surrounding the hamlet and then turns into a beautiful paved mule track that goes into the wood in direction of Motta.
