1-2 PM - CLEAN-UP TIME!
While we are all in Upper Hutt for the WENZ Event (GC78NMQ) it seems like a great idea to take the opportunity to clean up one of our favourite gaming locations.
Trentham Memorial Park is a long-time and integral part of the game for many locals, hosting at least six caches and providing an entrance to the river where there are many more. So it seems like a logical choice to give a little back by cleaning up the area.
Let's meet at GZ at 1pm and spend an hour collecting rubbish. If you can, please bring your own bag. If you are unable to, there will be some available on-site. You may also want some gloves (again we will have some available).
The more, the merrier. We will aim to be completed at 2pm so you can get on with enjoying the rest of your weekend at WENZ.
A little information about Trentham Memorial Park (or TMP) and also Barton's Bush.
TMP provides a gateway to the Hutt River Trail and surrounding open spaces – Moonshine and Moehau Parks. With its bush areas (Barton and Domain) and large open grass areas, TMP is a great place for picnics, sports, recreation and leisure. There are several bush walks through Barton and Domain Bushes. These walkways are all flat except for one steep section near the tree tunnel. They are suitable for buggies, push chairs and wheelchairs.
TMP also has a large play area for all age groups from traditional to adventure items including two large forts, a 4.5 metre-high mega swing, double-basket swing, skysurf, and rodeo board. The tree tunnel area provides a nice area for picnics and a link between the playground and Barton’s Bush.
On the other side of the stop bank, a picnic area is provided for those enjoying a day at the river, or those enjoying a day of recreation along the Hutt River Trail.
Trentham Memorial Park is home to many sport codes, such as cricket, rugby, football, athletics and the axemens club, and is also home to great events in Upper Hutt, such as the annual Fireworks Fantastic, the Summer Carnival, and the Colour Run.
Barton's Bush is the largest remaining area of lowland mixed podocarp/broadleaf forest on the valley floor. Named after Richard Barton who settled in the area in 1841, it was his desire that this section of the native forest should remain whilst the city of Upper Hutt gradually took shape and land was cleared for farming and settling.
