There is no direct path from this one to Horned Stump. It is not within the loop so if you are walking up from Spikey Stump, you will need to carry on up past that, and then walk back down to find the path on the left down to Horned Stump. If you approach from the common, please do not climb over the fence. There is a gate nearby that I have waypointed.
This is a loop of caches in Newent Woods. They are all just off well used footpaths and are all by, in or under tree stumps. They are all quite simple hides designed to give you a nice walk. There is no need to go off piste, I have waymarked path junctions which hopefully make it clear where you need to go. All of the footpaths are shown on the trails map on the official geocaching app.
The name of the cache describes what the stump looks like (in my opinion). I have not numbered them because there are many ways to get onto the hill and into the woods.
Most people who visit May Hill only ever walk up to the trees at the top. Newent Woods are lovely and also deserve to be explored.
I am lucky to be able to walk up the hill from my front door and I do several times a week. I started to vary my walk by walking through the woods and it is now my favourite place. It is so peaceful and there is lots of wildlife. I regularly see buzzards and Muntjac Deer.
I have spent the last few months exploring and deciding on the best loop for the walk and the best hides. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
The paths can be muddy in places after rain and very muddy in the winter. Decent footwear is recommended.
