Cathy: Sorry folks, we need to get along with the neighbors. If the cache owner can show permission for the cache placement from the owners of the orphanage/group home, we can look at this again. Please remove the container as soon as possible.

Geocache Description:

The following is a series of 4 caches. Each cache will mark a former orphange. The first cache is hidden at the former Gill Memorial Boys' Home now Gill Waminda Aged Care Plus Centre. I have hidden this series as the orphanages have a family connection for me but I will get to that later.

The Gill Memorial Boys' Home was a Salvation Army Boys' Home located at Auburn Street, Goulburn from September 1936. It was opened after the closure of the Salvation Army's Dee Why Boys' Home. It held around 90 boys at a time, aged from three to 18 years. In 1980 the Home was restructured and changed, becoming the Gill Memorial Family Group Home.

Some children at Gill Memorial Boys' Home were there under court orders, some were state wards, some were child migrants, some were placed there 'informally', for example by a parent.

Some former residents recall sexual abuse and most described a harsh routine, where numbers were used instead of names.

Those involved where to face charges for what they had done.

Gill Memorial may have closed it's doors but it remains standing a dark stain on not only Goulburn's but Australia's history.
