This is our first attempt at hiding a cache. Being members of the Canadian Armed Forces we are fanatics for all things military history. This cache is located only a short walk from the former military establishment CFS Carp, Dunrobin Detachment.
HISTORY - Built in 1962 and decommissioned in 1994, the Dunrobin Detachment was a military-operated radio communications receiver station linked by land line to CFS Carp. It is located at the corner of Dunrobin rd and Vance's Side Rd. The detachment was unmanned and the location was primarily used as a remote antenna farm. After the end of the Cold war, CFS Carp was decommissioned and the antenna station was no longer needed. There are still remains of the station, including buildings, concrete blocks and old No Tresspassing signs posted along the perimiter. This station is (from what we can tell) private property and we do not recommend going exploring without prior permission.
THE CACHE - can be found on the edge of a farmers field and a nice forrested area. There is not alot of bush-whacking required, however pants and bugspray are recommended (seasonally).
Family friendly & not far from the road, this should be a quick park and grab. There likley wont be muggles around this cache, but this road can be heavily travelled so please ensure that you use caution and as always - Safety First!
It is a small cache in a camo'd Lift & Lock Container and the original contents when placed included a Canadian Flag Log Book, a "guard dog" to keep the cache safe, a quarter, a canadian flag pin, a button from a CAF Officers tunic, a binder clip, a rainbow eraser, a plastic acorn, a small totempole and a sunglass/cell phone cleaning cloth.
We have children participating in our geocaching adventures and we would love to see pictures of those who find ours. Please take a treasure but be sure to leave one behind for others. We would love to see some travel bugs make their way to this cache so we can follow their adventures.
