I have fond memories of Womack Water and the staithe here.
Boating on the Broads is a favourite holiday of many people and my family were no different. My grandparents visited every year for nearly 40 years, holidaying with their two children and ultimately me, usually from Wroxham.
My grandmother had charge of the boat once in a particularly wet September/October and because of the swollen rivers, hazards were submerged. Unfortunately for my grandmother, she managed to direct the boat into one of these hazards, putting a hole into it. Thankfully they had an excellent relationship with the boatyard and a replacement boat was quickly sought.
She often received a bit of gentle ribbing thereafter!
Both my grandparents have now passed but I have fond memories of the Norfolk Broads and the love of boating that has been instilled within me as a result. Indeed my parents have a narrowboat in Northamptonshire that sees a lot of use when time allows!
Womack Staithe was always a frequent stop on our cruises along the rivers of the Broads and I have fond memories of mooring up here, feeding the ducks and walking into Ludham village for lunch at the pub!
Fast forward to now, and my uncle and aunt reside in nearby Horning, where my parents spent their honeymoon so my family continue to have close ties to Norfolk.
I place this cache here not only for my own reminiscences but to bring cachers to this pretty location. Why not take a look in the shops for some locally crafted artwork or curios or stroll along the staithe and take in the gentle bustle of the waterway?
