While travelling this stretch of road about three weeks ago, I noticed the realignment was almost finished, so I scoped out a couple of places for some new caches. A week after that BigglesNZ released Rai Saddle Realigned (GC7W0H4) and I thought... 'You snooze, you lose.' BigglesNZ managed to select one of the sites I chose for a cache, but left what I consider the prime site untouched. That was rectified today.
Unlike the other new cache here, this one is best attepted when heading from Blenheim to Nelson. It is located at the top of the Rai Saddle where the road accesses a forestry road and where the construction site for the realignment project was headquartered. There is plenty of room for safe parking, but it is best to leave the little ones strapped in the car, this is a State Highway after all.
I didn't have one of my standard barrier caches prepared to place here when we left home this morning, so this on is a variation on the theme that was cobbled together in a couple of minutes. It is a micro, so no room for writing impliments or swag. The Rite in the rain log sheet is unencumbered by a plastic bag but it shouldn't be a problem.
