NEDERLANDS

Ganzenbordspellen zijn al bekend uit de zestiende eeuw. Francesco de Medici (1541-1587) stuurde een ganzenbordspel naar Filips II van Spanje (1527-1598).[1] Langs verschillende wegen kwam het terecht in Engeland en Frankrijk. In 1597 werd het spel ingeschreven bij het Londense Stationer’s Hall register. Rond 1640 verscheen het ganzenbordspel voor het eerst in Nederland.

Het spel beeldde een levensweg uit, waarvan de loop werd bepaald door het lot (de dobbelsteen). Vroeger werden dobbelstenen als iets negatiefs gezien, maar doordat het ganzenbord een "braaf" spel was, vonden mensen het niet erg om met de dobbelstenen het spel te spelen. In de 16e eeuw was ganzenbord een ontspannend spel voor adellijke kinderen, maar in de 17e eeuw werd het spel gebruikt om de jeugd iets te leren.

In de 20e eeuw werd ganzenbord vaak als reclamebord gebruikt.

En tegenwoordig is het spel zelfs als menselijke variant te spelen via Geocaching. Het spel speelt zich af in het Rasterhoff-park. U zult er 1 tot 2 uur mee bezig zijn al naar gelang de dobbelstenen rollen. Wanneer u exact op 42 belandt krijgt u de coordinaten van de cache.

Vergeet niet een lange broek en goede schoenen aan te trekken. Al naar gelang het jaargetijde kunnen de brandnetels  hoog staan.

Goose games originate from the 16th century. ancesco de Medici (1541-1587) sent a goose game to King Philip II of Spain (1527-1598). Through various ways it cam to the United Kingdom and France. In 1697 the game was registered to the London Stationer's Hall. Around 1640 the goose game cam to The Netherlands for the first time.

The game portrayed a road of life where the course was determined by fate (rolling the dice). In the old days dice were seen as a negative item but because the Goose game was a "decent" game people didn't mind using dice to the play the game. In the 16th century it was a relaxing game for royal children, but in the 17th century the game was used for educating children.

In the 20th century it is often used for advertisement.

But nowadays the game can even be played real-life through Geocaching. The Goose game is played in the Rasterhoff-park. You will need between 1 and 2 hours to complete it, depending onn how dice roll. When you land on 42 exactly, the coordinates of the cache will be given.
