Now for the Cache:
This geocache was placed with the permission and assistance of Walden Marina.
Is it spelled "Anchors Aweigh" like the name of this cache, or is it "Anchors Away?"
Ancient sailors were evidently fond of adding 'a' to words to make new ones, for example, 'ahoy', 'astern', 'aboard', ashore', 'afloat', 'adrift', 'aground', etc. We speculate alcohol might have been involved.
So when an anchor began to put weight on the rope or chain as it was being hauled up in order to get the ship underway, the 'a' was added to 'weigh' and the word became 'aweigh.' Now you know!
The song Anchors Aweigh is the fight song of the United States Naval Academy and march song of the United States Navy. It was composed in 1906 .
